We are currently looking for motivated, hands-on students! As a Paterson Grain Summer Student, you will serve as part of the daily operations and agronomy team at a Paterson Grain location.
Reporting to the Location Manager, you will be responsible for assisting and shadowing various staff at the location, with a view to ensuring quality in the handling and delivery of Paterson Grain products and services.
What you’ll do:
Operations:
- Understand and maintain safe and effective handling practices of fertilizer, chemicals, seeds, and other product inventories handled at the location in accordance with Health & Safety guidelines
- Understand and perform inventory controls by paying attention to detail to inventory records and ticket loadouts with our system during the season daily to weekly.
- Provide support to the team by making farm deliveries of crop protection, seed and moving inventory between Paterson Grain facilities.
- Operate equipment such as forklift/pallet jacks in the shed to load or unload to farm trucks and trailers and other equipment on site that is relent to job tasks.
Agronomy:
- Independently conduct field scouting activities in varies crops
- Enter data into record keeping software
- Collaborate with our site agronomists on crop monitoring (weeds, disease, and insects etc.)
- Drive on rural roads and long distances
- Occasionally exposed or required to work in various weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc)
- Assist with farm fields trials and gain experience and data with new products
What you’ll need:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Ag Business, Agronomy, or related discipline
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work in an environment with changing priorities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to learn day-to-day business operations
- Farming/agricultural background would be considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
This position is available to students that are enrolled in school and looking for a May – August term or students that are graduating in 2026 and want to start their career with Paterson as a potential full-time candidate.
