Reporting to the General Manager, the Plant Manager is responsible for the operations of a grain terminal facility. This position is involved in the day-to-day operations of grain procurement, inventory management, grain shipments, grain grading/blending, grain sales and related paperwork. This position may perform these duties or may delegate them to a direct report and may work in operations of all sizes. The Elevator Assistant(s) directly report to this position.
Responsibilities
- To coordinate the function of bringing in railcars and/or trucks to ship grain according to grade and dockage.
- To coordinate the loading of cars to achieve unit train savings and to guarantee that cars are loaded correctly. Supervises Facility Assistant(s) daily activities to maximize productivity and meet all customer service requirements.
- To profitably blend grains according to the blending strategy.
- To communicate and train staff on policies and procedures ensuring proper grain handling in a profitable and efficient manner.
- To implement, enforce and monitor corporate safety, health and environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Promotes safety at all times.
- To provide training and development to Facility Assistants on grain grading, binning and blending. Supervise Facility Assistant’s daily activities to maximize productivity and ensure customer service requirements are meet.
- To supervise the maintenance of grain handling equipment.
- To optimize the use of physical storage facilities in accordance with defined regulations.
- To create and maintain customer loyalty by demonstrating integrity, service, market knowledge and professionalism in all dealings with farmers.
- Monitors all controllable expenses to maximize profitability of the facility. Responsible for the specifications of grains loaded into rail cars and trucks.
- Other duties as requested.
Qualifications
- Minimum partial completion of High School.
- Previous agricultural or farming experience would be an asset.
- 3 years of related experience.
