Paterson GlobalFoods is excited to introduce our Commodity Quantitative Analyst Program for the Winter and/or Spring/Summer 2024 Co-Op term. This all-encompassing program will provide you the knowledge and skills essential to your future success as a Commodity Quantitative Analyst. You will work closing with the trading team in modelling concepts and developing research that is used in the decision-making process and potential automation of commodity futures and options trading. The ideal candidate will possess excellent critical, strategic, and problem-solving competencies with the motivation and drive to thrive in a fast paced, environment. This program is in its infancy so you will be part of building a team from the ground up when it comes to quantitative futures trading. Responsibilities
- Work closely with commodity traders in generating backtests and walk forward testing.
- Assist the trader(s) in data compilation/scraping.
- Help develop new ways to model factors that impact commodity market fundamentals.
- Produce performance reports based of theoretical trading rules/algorithms given by the trader.
- All testing will focus on commodity futures and options. General market knowledge like bonds or equities would be helpful, as some quant skills would be transferable.
- Research projects that will help develop decision making for traders.
- Any other research/data compilation requests by the trader.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or greater from the From the U of M in mathematics/statistics or computer science/engineering
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated oral, written communication skills, strong persuasion, and negotiation skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
- Motivated and driven to succeed and should have general interest in trading markets.
- Extremely Proficient in Python.
- Knowledge of Easylanguage, R, or excel macros and general programming skills.
- An understanding of statistics/probabilities, and general investment/market trading concepts. With preference (but not required) to Grain and Oilseed commodity futures.
- Proficient in handling large sets of data and producing performance reports.
- Assess and quantify risk exposures to portfolios of trades using risk models and statistics.
- Experience with machine learning, numerical optimization would be beneficial.
