Oats Merchandiser – Alabama, USA

Paterson GlobalFoods is currently seeking a highly dependable, detail-orientated professional to fill the role of Oats Merchandiser who is responsible for originating, marketing, and managing the movement of oats and related products across the Southeastern United States, with a focus on feed, milling, and specialty end-use markets. This role combines commercial relationship-building, contract execution, logistics coordination, and strategic market development to expand the company’s footprint in the region.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Relationship Management

  • Maintain and grow strong relationships with regional feed mills, oat millers, integrators, distributors, and specialty ingredient users.
  • Provide market updates, pricing indications, and timely communication to ensure high service levels.
  • Conduct regular customer visits throughout Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Texas and surrounding states.

2. Business Development & Market Expansion

  • Identify emerging opportunities for whole oats, clipped oats, oat groats, feed-grade oats, screenings, and other oat by-products in the Southeastern U.S.
  • Prospect and onboard new customers in feed, milling, equine, pet food, and food-ingredient channels.
  • Support strategic initiatives to open new geographic or value-added markets.

3. Contracting & Position Management

  • Negotiate purchase and sales contracts with producers, brokers, and end users.
  • Monitor open positions, hedge exposure, basis levels, and futures market dynamics.
  • Ensure accurate contract entry, execution, amendments, and settlements in accordance with company policies.

4. Logistics & Execution

  • Coordinate truck, rail, and container logistics to ensure efficient and cost-effective delivery of oats and oat products.
  • Work with internal logistics teams and external carriers to manage freight, service issues, and schedule changes.
  • Troubleshoot execution challenges to maintain customer satisfaction.

5. Market Intelligence & Analysis

  • Monitor regional supply/demand fundamentals, crop conditions, competitor activity, and feed-market trends across the Southeast.
  • Provide timely insights to management to support pricing, origination, and risk-management decisions.

Qualifications

  • Experience in grain merchandising, feed ingredient sales, or agricultural commodity trading (oats preferred).
  • Strong understanding of feed markets in the Southeastern U.S.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Proficiency in contract management, logistics coordination, and market analysis.
  • Ability to travel regionally to visit customers and suppliers.
