Reporting to the Head Miller – this position will provide excellence in coaching, communication, and direction to all the milling staff. As the Assistant Head Miller, you will be responsible for coordinating the milling staff and equipment in the production of oat-based ingredients. You will be operating the latest technology milling equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily management and supervision of Mill Leads, Millers and Mill Utility team members. This involves scheduling shifts and overseeing daily operations to ensure everything runs smoothly
- Enforce safety regulations and ensure that the milling operation adheres to workplace health and safety protocols. This may involve conducting safety training and ensuring a clean and safe working environment
- Assist in training new employees and providing guidance to staff members regarding milling operations, safety procedures, and best practices in maintaining product quality. This also includes contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
- Monitor, control, and strive to improve the efficiencies of the milling operations. This may include troubleshooting operational issues, identifying areas for improvement, and collaborating with team members to enhance productivity and efficiency
- Coach, train and mentor the milling staff to problem solve and promotes an inclusive culture that seeks continuous improvements.
- Manage the sanitation program of the facility
- Complete documentation in accordance with all policies and procedures.
- Operates in accordance with all food safety requirements and assists with program initiatives.
- Participate in a respectful work environment where employees can bring forward not only ideas and improvements but concerns of all nature, including safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience with managing direct reports in milling operations is a plus.
- 10 years of Milling experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent trade is a plus.
- Available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead staff, ability to develop good working relationships and work independently.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 25KG.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work in a processing environment (steam processing, heights, no dust allergies)
- Able to complete respirator fit testing.
